Poetry from the Generations

Dirdum
by Nancy Ness

The greatest gifts in life define
Devout parental care.
Souls woven of life’s finest thread
Darn pride in fledglings’ fare.

  My quest that I might stand their stead;
Same tears shed twice before.
Mellitus lance bescourged this day
Sweet progeny once more.

  What future’s cast as shadows lay
Beneath their ventured stride?
Insidious this curse within,
Ensuing years decried.

  E’er days of bliss or bleak chagrin
We each must heed His call
Our lives to live as His design
But must He have my all?
