Poetry from the Generations

Yesterday
by Velma M. Carlson

The sun shone bright in the Heavens above
It was one of those beautiful days.
I played in the "plum trees" with sister Bunnie
We had such good times always.
Many years have passed and Bunnie is gone
but it seems she is always close by.
I think of her often and get lonely at heart
     And sometimes I really cry.
The sun doesn't shine as bright as back then.
Sometimes the clouds come, then go
It's not nearly as bright as it used to be
and I pray for this brightness to show.
I hope that tomorrow the fog will be gone
The sky be an azure blue
And that I can see all of its beauty again
Just the same as I used to do.
I pray that the world will be clear and bright
That we may enjoy the stars by nite
The beautiful sunrise of each new day
Lead us Dear God ~ and show us the way.

Now, looking back over the years ~
I pray all these memories will stay
It seems that joy of our childhood
     Are the happiest "Yesterdays".
