Sweet Sleep
by Velma M. Carlson

I’m happy to sleep ~ a deep, deep slumber
    Free from the pain of all I remember.
The thoughts so depressing that blind me with tears
    I’m happy to sleep ~ and to dream of the past.
Sometimes, I’m so happy – that I wish it would last

 He always is there – I am never alone;
    And it makes me feel joyous to have him at home
We are always together, my dreams are so real

But when I awake, it’s just sorrow I feel;
    I am happy to sleep, to dream just of him
And so overjoyed to see him again
    Then when I awake, I know it’s a dream
But deep in my heart, I feel better
    It seems...
