To You in the Hospital
by Velma M. Carlson

It takes a lot of courage never to
...complain
When you are blue and discouraged
...and suffer lots of pain.
It's hard to take in on the chin ~
...to smile and say "I'm swell"
When all the time you're really ill
...and feeling far from well.
It takes a lot of courage, a mighty
...lot, I'd say.
But you must grin and bear it.
...There is no other way.
The doctor's working mighty hard
...to help you get well,
So when he makes the rounds today
...just say, "I'm feeling swell."
It takes a lot of courage, but
...start in now and smile.
Don't give up and say "I'm sick."
...It's really not worthwhile.
Spread a little sunshine.
...Drive those clouds away.
Make those around you happy.
...Then, you've really won the day.
