How Can I Forget
by Velma M. Carlson

How can I forget him, when I know
He is near?
His memory is beautiful! Filled
With many the years
How can I forget him? He’s here
In my mind
Not a passing thought, but all of
The time.
How can I forget him? He was
My life...
We worked hard together, through
Toil and strife.
How can I forget him? Nearly
Sixty-five years
And when I think back, my eyes
Fill with tears.
How can I forget him? With
Memories so sweet.
And I know that someday we
Are going to meet.
No, I’ll never forget him.  He is
Close to my heart.
In our vows we had promised
“Until death us do part”.
